Cambodia, Laos Reaffirm Commitment to Border Demarcation

Phnom Penh: Dr. Cheam Yeap, the First Vice President of the Cambodian National Assembly, hosted a delegation from the Lao National Assembly. During the meeting, Dr. Yeap emphasized the mutual commitment of Cambodia and Laos to swiftly conclude the border demarcation, marking a pivotal step towards reinforcing bilateral relations.

Dr. Yeap conveyed to the Lao delegation that the Royal Government of Cambodia, under its seventh mandate and leadership of the youthful and dynamic Prime Minister Hun Manet, is dedicated to preserving peace and promoting equitable livelihoods for its citizens. This commitment is part of the broader objectives outlined in the Royal Government of Cambodia's Pentagon Strategy.

Highlighting the achievements of the 7th legislature of the National Assembly over the past five months, Dr. Yeap underscored the diligent efforts made in serving the nation and its people, achieving commendable outcomes. He pointed out the proactive engagement of the Assembly members in legislative discussions, approval of laws, and dissemination of information regarding the National Assembly’s activities to the public. Additionally, Khuon Sodary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has been instrumental in enhancing the National Assembly’s diplomatic outreach on various international platforms.

From the Lao side, Khamchanh Sodapaseuth, a member of the Standing Committee and Chairman of the Committee on Ethnic Affairs, expressed the delegation's aim to deepen the bonds of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation across all spheres, particularly between the legislatures of Laos and Cambodia.

Moreover, the visit aimed at fostering an exchange of experiences and best practices in the development of education, youth, sports, religious affairs, culture, and tourism sectors between the two countries' National Assemblies.

The border between Cambodia and Laos, stretching 540 kilometers with 145 border posts established, stands as a testament to the ongoing efforts and dialogue between the two nations to resolve boundary issues.

This meeting underscores a shared vision for a strengthened relationship and cooperation between Cambodia and Laos, reflecting a mutual desire for peace, prosperity, and development in the region.
